Yamaha R6 - Rear Peg Lights Tutorial
Step 14

With the sides installed we need to attach the top and bottom pieces. Measure the width and depth of the top and bottom of the two peg pieces and cut out rectangles from the 1mm sheet of styrene.

Take the 2mm backs of the peg pieces and put it in place without gluing it. This will spread the side panel apart so that they will be in the proper location when you glue the tops and bottoms. Put beads of glue on the side panels and the 4mm piece but NOT the 2mm piece and attach the top or bottom. Let it cure for the proper amount of time and repeat for the other peg. After curing, remove the 2mm piece and you should have nice little boxes like Figure 9.

Step 15

At the top of each peg enclosure, drill a small hole just big enough to fit the four LED wires thorough.

Sand down the tops and bottoms so that they are nice and flush. For a really nice finish, take the tube of Bondo and fill in the cracks and corners of the two enclosures. Let it dry and then sand it down with a fine grain paper.

Once that's done, use your favorite painting method to paint the front of your enclosure. Don't worry too much about the sides as you'll have to paint again once you attach the back. Painting now makes it a bit easier as you don't have to worry about masking off the LEDs.

Step 16

After the front is finished you can install the LEDs. Fish the LED wires through the hole in the top of the enclosure. Put a thin bead of CA glue around each LED and put the assembly in place on the inside of the enclosure. Flip the piece over and use the Testors cement to fill in and seal the hole around the LED. Also use the cement to seal the hole around the wires. Let the cement sit and cure.

Now put a thin bead of CA glue around the inside of the enclosure where the 2mm back piece will fit and then install the back. When it's cured, apply bondo, sand and finish painting.

Step 17

After the back side is complete, you can go ahead and install them on the pegs. I found that using some double sided foam servo tape worked wonderfully well for holding them on the rear pegs. They've been on for just over a month now and haven't fallen off.

Wipe down the inside of the rear pegs with rubbing alcohol or some kind of really good cleaner/degreaser. If there is even a little bit of dirt left on the pegs the tape won't stick well at all. Then peal off one side of the tape and stick it to the pegs. Peal the other side off and carefully place your LED enclosure on top of it. Press the whole enclosure into the pegs hard and hold it for a little bit. Take the rear seat and the main seat off of your bike then remove the top fairing. Route the LED wires through the peg holes into the area under the main seat.
